Artist Statement

“When I move, much moves through me. I navigate thoughts, feelings and above all, what the body is sensing in any given moment - which leads me to the next moment. I research how to create movement based on emergent sensing, where do my impulses come from, what moves me in one moment and in the next, why and how do I take movement decisions.”

As a video and movement artist, who at the heart is a living system thinker, Sarah sees, feels and breathes interconnectivity.

Sarah’s current line of research is concerned with bringing awareness to what moves through the inner realm, what's within one's own reach and that which is beyond - she has been calling this research the ‘Spheres of Being’.

The work questions where one can place attention at any given point and how we might develop awareness between the spheres that an individual or collective exist in, whilst actively working in the spheres and the interconnections between them.

Since Autumn 2021, Sarah has been sharing this research at a studio class series with a small group and a gender and body empowerment youth group ‘My Body (my) Rules!’ in Vienna, online with colleagues via Zoom and in nature settings in Austria and the United Arab Emirates.

In February 2023 Sarah took her research to the Peace and Conflict Studies MA program at Innsbruck University, Austria for a 4-day program working with the students on a piece called ‘Embodied Practices for Self and Collective Wellbeing’.

“I work individually and with groups to explore the dynamics of singular and collective movement movement, and how we deal with emergence of action and inaction, leading, following, belonging, not belong, saying “yes” to a collective of bodies or taking a solo, taking a stand”
